Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the AHDAM Certified Appeal Specialist (CAS) program, candidates must hold an eligible professional credential and attest to meeting the experience requirement for each track they choose. The only required upload is a copy of your current license or certification.
Professional Credential Requirements
Candidates must hold — and upload a copy of — at least one of the following state-licensed or professionally recognized credentials. This is the only supporting document required.
CCS®, RHIA®, RHIT®
Coding / Health Information
CRNP, PA
Advanced Practice
DO / MD
Physician
LPN, RN
Nursing
Other licensed or credentialed healthcare practitioners
Involved in denial review and appeals — subject to written approval by AHDAM™
Professional Experience Requirements
Candidates attest that they meet one of the following experience paths for each track they apply to — no supporting documentation is required for experience. Time periods do not need to be consecutive.
CAS: Medical Necessity (MN)™
- •At least 1 year of case management OR utilization management experience, plus 1 year of medical necessity appeal writing
- OR2 or more years of medical necessity appeal writing
- OR2 or more years as a physician advisor for medical necessity appeal writers
CAS: Clinical Validation (CV)™
- •At least 1 year of experience in Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), plus 1 year writing CV appeals
- OR2 or more years writing CV appeals
- OR2 or more years as a physician advisor for CV writers
CAS: Coding (CD)™
- •At least 1 year working as an inpatient and/or outpatient coder, plus 1 year of writing coding appeals
- OR2 or more years writing coding appeals
